I love Christmas. I love the cheesy songs, the pretty lights and the extra time with all the people I love and care about. I’ve been giddy since November, and I’m feeling especially festive at the moment.
In the run-up to Christmas, it’s super easy to just end up spending all your time Christmas shopping, but there’s so much other fun stuff you could be doing! (When you’re not too busy attending parties, of course). Get your shopping finished early (we could all do it in one trip if we were honest with ourselves), and spend your last weekend before Christmas doing fun things like these instead!
1. Make a gingerbread house
We did this at the beginning of December and I’m proud to report that it is still standing. It was a bit ambitious for our first ever attempt, and may have some structural issues that would stop potential gingerbread people from considering it as a living space, but I ate the gingerbread people so it doesn’t really matter.
2. Go for a wintery walk
It may be cold outside but going for a walk, even if it’s just around your neighbourhood, will do you a world of good. I promise. Pop in your favourite podcast, or get the whole family out for a brisk stroll around your local park.
3. Do a Christmas scavenger / photo hunt!
There are tons of free lists of things to look for online, or make your own. Get your friends together, split in to teams and see how many things you can find in an hour. You could even include getting a photo of your team drinking a festive cocktail or some mulled wine!
4. Host a Christmas cocktail party
See which of your friends has the best mixing abilities and come up with festive names for all your tasty drinks.
5. Be peacefully anti-social
Everyone benefits from having some time to just relax and recharge. Put aside some time before Christmas to just sit and chill by yourself with a good book (I’m currently reading The Little Paris Bookshop and loving it) and you’ll feel far more relaxed and ready for the busy week ahead.
6. Indulge in silly Christmas songs
7. Actually make something you’ve pinned
Actually make one of those Christmassy recipes you’ve been pinning to your ‘Christmas’ board since September. I want to make a pie with elaborate decoration, because Pinterest.
8. Take a drive to see the lights
Grab your partner/friend/family and take a drive around your area just to see all the lights decorating the houses and decide which is your favourite. Pack some hot coffee to take with you and stick on some Christmas music to truly get that festive feeling.
